A first-timer's guide to Diani Beach

Diani's beach is long, wide, and shallow at low tide, which makes it excellent for walking but means you'll want to check tide times before planning a swim. Getting there is easiest by a short flight into Ukunda airstrip, followed by a 15-20 minute transfer to most resorts. The road route from Mombasa via the Likoni ferry takes longer but is far cheaper. December through March brings the driest, sunniest weather, while April to June is the long rains — quieter, greener, and considerably less expensive if you don't mind the occasional afternoon shower.
